Can my son play with the boys in his class (his age has him playing in a higher division)?
CYFA age restrictions adhere to the NTFL bylaws. The bylaws are pretty clear about the divisions being age pure. NTFL will make concessions to families with children who have conditions that necessitate them playing down. In most cases, the player would have to be in the 5th percentile of their age group for height and weight. To get approved to play down, a family must submit a petition for playing down to the CYFA board. The petition collateral should include why you believe that your child should be playing down and supporting evidence. i.e. if they are small, what percentile are they in for height and weight – this should come from their pediatrician. At that point the CYFA board will vote whether or not to submit it to NTFL board. The family will then be notified on the outcome of the petition.
